Sri Lanka Highlights - 10 Days
Welcome to Sri Lanka, the ultimate adventure of Asia. You will be received by our representative at the airport and transfer you to Badalgama, a small town situated 30 minutes drive from the airport, is your first overnight stay in a quaint country bungalow in a Coconut estate. At the estate, you would be able to take leisurely strolls under the shades of thousands of Coconut Trees, mingle with estate workers and observe how Coconuts are plucked by skilled workers. If you happen to stay on a Sunday, you could visit the village market to see how villagers and farmers make their efforts to sell their crops and goods.
After breakfast, we drive to the very heart of the cultural triangle and stay two nights within the sights of Sigiriya Rock Fortress and ancient Pidurangala Rock Monastery. You sleep in a Tree House nestled around a small patch of jungle where myriad of birds, rare Slender Loris and Elephants call their home.
Our village guide will take you for a guided cycle trip to UNESCO World Heritage site of Sigiriya. The trail takes you through the forest reservations that surround the Rocks and the villages at their base, taking you all the way around the 4 ‘gates’ North, South, East and West. Park your cycles by the Western Entrance and explore the gardens and climb the Rock. After the climb, we will rest in the gardens for a while and then do a leisurely cycle back the Tree House Lodge.
An afternoon safari in Minneriya National Park Will bring you up close and personal with gentle giants in the wild, Elephants while the ruins of Polonnaruwa will bring you the insight of engineering and architectural skill of our ancestors.
We drive to Kandy, the most venerated city of Sri Lanka and on the way we visit another UNESCO World heritage site, Dambulla Cave Temple. In the late afternoon, pay respect to the Temple of Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha during a sermon, observing centuries old rituals. Stay in a fine resort by the Mahweli River.
On this day, we take a scenic train journey of 7 hours further towards the hills, Ella. This train journey is considered one of the most scenic rail journeys of the world, the train goes through rolling tea estates and forests providing you views of the waterfalls and mist capped montane forests.
In Ella you could explore the area on your own trekking to Little Adam’s Peak for unobstructed views of the mountains and valley below, visit British built 9 arch bridge or take an adventurous Tuk Tuk ride to a Tea estate and a factory to understand the process of making the world’s finest, Ceylon Tea.
Culture, heritage and mountains, done. Now it is the time for a classic tented safari camping experience in much famed Yala National Park. Take the afternoon and morning safaris with an experienced guide to Yala to see the elusive Leopards, Elephants and Sloth Bears, not to forget various types’ birds. This is an all inclusive tented camping experience where you will be treated to royalty. All meals, all drinks and snacks are included. Dinner will be on a rock cliff surrounded by boulders and the jungle. Our team lights up a campfire on the rock cliff as you sip an ice cold Beer.
on the beach, what a way to conclude your adventure in Sri Lanka. You will be staying in a fine small hotel in Weligama, a fishing village in the south coast of Sri Lanka where you could try some authentic seafood to wind up the day on a sunny tropical beach dotted with palm trees.
An afternoon trip to Galle Fort will be an interesting excursion as you could witness the sunset sitting on the ramparts of Galle Fort after some leisurely walks in the streets of Galle Fort, built by Portuguese, later occupied by Dutch but Brits did not show big interests in it. Walking in the streets in Galle Fort, you will come across Dutch built buildings, lively cafes and pubs, nice to enjoy your favourite wine in one of those restaurants or pubs.
If you prefer Sea going, a Whale watching trip in the Indian Ocean could be organized when in Weligama, off the coast of Mirissa.
You just concluded an adventure in this tropical Island, head back to the Airport for the flight back home.
