Sri Lanka in Summer with kids - 16 Days
Welcome to Sri Lanka, the ultimate adventure of Asia. You will be received by our representative at the airport and transfer you to Badalgama, a small town situated 30 minutes drive from the airport, is your first overnight stay in a quaint country bungalow in a Coconut estate. At the estate, you would be able to take leisurely strolls under the shades of thousands of Coconut Trees, mingle with estate workers and observe how Coconuts are plucked by skilled workers.
If you happen to stay on a Sunday, you could visit the village market to see how villagers and farmers make their efforts to sell their crops and goods. Pay a visit to the local village temple to observe the rituals of a village temple; you could even interact with the Buddhist monks. In a morning do some leisurely walks beyond our estate to the village; understand the local way of life.
From Coconut estate to Tea estate, we now go to Kandy, a tea estate situated outskirts of Kandy, in the foot hills of Knuckles mountains for three nights stay for a complete hill country experience. When in the Tea estate you could take on some leisurely walks in the tea gardens, go for a swim in the waterfall located inside the tea estate. Interact with Tea estate workers and pluck Tea leaves with their guidance and get the first hand experience of working in a Tea estate. In one of these days we take you for a guided day walk in the Knuckles Mountains to explore the cloud forests, rural villages, Kandyan home gardens and terraced rice fields. The Tea estate also boasts of a nice swimming pool, when at the estate you could also take guided walks in the area with the resident naturalist or take part in an authentic cooking experience with the house chef.
Now it gets even more adventurous. Three nights in a Tree House in Sigiriya, in a lodge situated off the grid. After breakfast at the Tea estate, we take a drive to the heart of the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka, Sigiriya. 3 hours drive approximately.
Our village guide will take you for a guided cycle trip to UNESCO World Heritage site of Sigiriya. The trail takes you through the forest reservations that surround the Rocks and the villages at their base, taking you all the way around the 4 ‘gates’ North, South, East and West. Park your cycles by the Western Entrance and explore the gardens and climb the Rock. After the climb, we will rest in the gardens for a while and then do a leisurely cycle back the Tree House Lodge.
An afternoon safari in Minneriya National Park Will bring you up close and personal with gentle giants in the wild, Elephants while the ruins of Polonnaruwa will bring you the insight of engineering and architectural skill of our ancestors.
In Sigiriya, you stay in a Tree House in a nature lodge surrounded by mountains and farming fields, situated away from the hustle and bustle of the town. When in the nature lodge in your leisure time you would be able to do some nature trails with a naturalist to explore the wonders of the nature and also do some interesting cycle rides around the lodge and this is an ideal way to interact with local farmers in the area.
It's now time to go the beach, make sand castles, swim, sun tan and enjoy freshly cooked Seafood. Beaches of Trincomalee are calm during the Mid May to September making it a friendly sea for swimming. There are Ocean going catamaran cruises where you could join for Whale watching as a day trip when in Trincomallee and also make a day trip to Pigeon Island with picnic meals for a snorkeling day out, marine life in the shallow waters of Pigeon Island is very rich. You live by right on the beach, in a Beach Chalet.
Another stunt is yet to begin, venture out to the wilderness of Wilpattu National Park, the most beautiful jungle of Sri Lanka with an experienced and knowledgeable naturalist to see the elusive Leopards. Elephants, Sloth Bears, Crocodiles and many verities of birds are among the other animals you could see. You stay by the border of the national park in an all inclusive tented safari camp. During the meals you could listen to the stories by the naturalists of his own experience of Sri Lankan wildlife encounters.
Your adventure in Sri Lanka is a now coming closer to the end. Stay the last night closer to the airport as it is convenient for the flight back home. Negombo is a beach destination, just 15 minutes drive to Colombo International Airport.
